1. Reliable Gear is Essential - A lot of players really believe that you are only as good as your gear. While I have a hard time believing that a $1,000 paintball gun in the hands of a new player will unlock hidden abilities, I do believe that gear does play a big part in how well you paintball. A player that has a marker and gear that complements his or her playing style will most certainly have a leg up on the field. However to develop a style, you must... (see below)
2. Play and Practice a lot - Its not just playing either, its practicing that really separates the big players from the posers. Getting a lot of games under your belt will give you experience, and having experience is imperative to being a good player. You can be a natural at a sport, but if you go head to head with someone who's been in every situation possible, then be ready to be defeated - the player with experience is more likely to win, no matter how good of an athlete you may be. You can't just pick up a paintball gun and expect to beat a team of veterans when you've only played a couple of times.
3. Have Fun! - Having reliable gear is just part of having fun. Sure, you won't have to tinker and mess with your gear as often, which is great, but there are other facets to having fun in paintball. One of these facets is making sure you don't take it too serious. Taking it too seriously is a sure way to burn yourself out and wear the fun out of this amazing sport.
